District #118 Technology Policies: Lab Management

Software Licenses & Hardware
  • Computers are in the lab for classroom learning—not students' personal use. Computer settings should not be altered. (Examples: screen savers, mouse settings, etc.)
  • If a program has not been taught in class, students are not authorized to use the program without teacher approval.
  • Students should report all problems or setting changes to the classroom teacher immediately.
  • Only authorized technicians contracted by the school district are to perform any repairs, upgrades, or similar work on district computers.
  • All students are responsible for maintaining a confidential password.
  • Sending or receiving email is prohibited unless assigned by the teacher.
  • The Internet is to be used only with teacher permission and only if it relates to the curriculum.
  • Remember—these computers are learning tools. Students are not allowed to:
    • install any hardware, software, or alter the workstation in any way
    • use personal disks or CDs on school workstations
    • use the teacher workstation
    • print, display, or send inappropriate material
