The Wizard of Oz - Young Performer's Edition
The Wizard of Oz

The North Ridge Middle School Theatre Company presents The Wizard of Oz – Young Performer’s Edition.  Show dates are Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19 at 7 PM in the North Ridge Cafetorium.

The Young Performers’ Edition of THE WIZARD OF OZ is a one-hour adaptation specially tailored for middle school aged actors.  This classic tale, in which a Kansas farm girl travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home, has been entertaining audiences for generations.

Dorothy Gale played by 7th grader Laynie Ferriman is a young girl living on a Kansas farm with her Aunt Em (Jenna Orr) and Uncle Henry (Thomas Strain).  She dreams of escaping her mundane life. The family’s mean neighbor, Miss Gulch (Kaylee Chrushron), threatens to impound Dorothy’s cherished dog, Toto (Dharmik Owen), so Dorothy and Toto run away. They meet up with kindly Professor Marvel (Dax Lara), who subtly convinces Dorothy to return home. Suddenly a cyclone hits, and Dorothy and Toto, seeking shelter in the house, are transported to the Land of Oz.

In Oz, Dorothy is greeted by Glinda, the Good Witch of the North (Delanie Robinson).

Dorothy’s house has landed upon – and fatally stricken – the Wicked Witch of the East. The Munchkins, now freed from the Wicked Witch of the East, celebrate and hail Dorothy as their new heroine.   The celebration is interrupted as the Wicked Witch of the West suddenly appears, seeking vengeance. Unable to reclaim her sister’s shoes, which are now on Dorothy’s feet, the Witch vows to return and quickly vanishes. Dorothy, seeking a way back home to Kansas, sets off to see the Wizard of Oz.

Along the way, Dorothy meets three new friends, each of whom lacks a crucial characteristic: The Scarecrow (Noah Acree), The Tinman (Cory Talbott) and the Lion (Ky’Esha Maze). Together, the four new companions make their way towards Oz.  Finally, they meet the imposing and irritable Wizard, who demands the broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the West.

The four friends travel deep into the haunted forest, where they encounter jitterbugs and flying monkeys.  The Wicked Witch’s flying monkeys swoop down, capturing Dorothy and Toto. The rest of the story plays out just as we all know.

Leading the ensemble in multiple roles are Bryson Josh, Kennedy Kruger and Jerry Strain.  Other members of the ensemble include: Nazaria Acuna, Lexie Adams, Gabby Armstrong, Abigail Bealer,  Kenslee Beaulier,  Ellie Bergeron, Isabelle Bruett,  Chris Chaney Chappel, Emma Ferren,  Jacob Fox,  Chloe Grites, Chloe Hempel, Dykaria Herron,  Amelia Ingold, Stieve Lawless,  Callie Mansfield,   Hannahbelle Rhodes, Alexis Sadler,  Kristen Sanchez, Sarah Schroeder, Zoee Sherman, Donald Shumard, Krystal Songer, Zoe Spain, Abby Strain, Grace Vogt, Brianna Webster, and Makenzie Wells.
